You really are tougher than you think. Human beings seem to be able to cope with almost anything. And that means you. Whatever you are going through, you can cope with it. It might not be fun, and I wish that it wasn’t happening to you. But almost always you will be out the other side, maybe exhausted, maybe struggling, but alive and with more experience.

Life may not be what it was before this started. But you will be stronger. You’ll have one more thing you can look back on and say – I went through and came out the other side. If I can do that, what else can I do that I never thought I could?

The greatest stories (whether real or fantasy) usually involve someone who shouldn’t be able to do something but who just keeps on going. My wife spent the whole of the birth of our second daughter saying, “I can’t do this any more.” And step by step she did it anyway. As far as she knew, she shouldn’t have been able to do what she did. But she was tougher than she thought. And looking back, she is proud of how well she did, not embarrassed that she thought she couldn’t do it.

Maybe you think that’s fine for other people, you know, the strong ones. But I’ll bet that if you were in a serious situation you would find strength that you didn’t know you had. Now you just need to learn how to access it. I’m not one of the strong ones. But I know that I have continued to go through things that I previously couldn’t cope with. And I am stronger than I was.

Whatever you’re going through right now, you can make it. Please lean on people if you need to, don’t try to do it alone of you don’t have to – but you can do this. You are tougher than you think.
